00 – Transaction Approved – The issuer approved this transaction
01 – Refer to Card Issuer – Issuer requesting to refer cardholder to contact their issuing bank
02 – Refer to Card Issuer, Special Conditions – Issuer requesting to refer cardholder to contact their issuing bank
03 – Invalid Merchant ID – This could mean that the MID was not boarded correctly with the Processor and may require escalation to development for review
04 – Pickup Card – The card may have been reported stolen, issuer declined transaction for this reason.
05 – Generic Authorization Decline – The issuer declined the transaction but did not provide any response/generic authorization decline.
06 – Error at Issuer – Issuer is reporting some type of issues with their system causing the decline
07 – Pick up card, Special Conditions - The card may have been reported stolen, issuer declined transaction for this reason.
08 – Honor with Identification - Transaction processed successfully - identification NOT required. This code is returned by some banks in place of 00 response.
10 – Approved for Partial Amount – Transaction was processed for an amount less than the total
11 – VIP Approval – This means the payment has been approved. This is sometimes returned in place of the 00 response.
12 – Invalid Transaction - The bank has declined the transaction because of an invalid format or field. This indicates the card details were incorrect. Check card data entered and try again.
13 – Invalid Amount - The customer’s card issuer has declined the transaction because of an invalid format or field. Check the transaction information and try processing the transaction again.
14 – Invalid Account Number - The card issuing bank has declined the transaction as the credit card number is incorrectly entered or does not exist. Check card details and try processing again.
15 – No Such Issuer - The customer’s card issuer does not exist. Check the card information and try processing the transaction again.
17 – Customer Cancellation – Customer cancelled transaction with their issuer
19 – Retry Transaction – Issuer requesting to retry transaction
21 – Reversal Unsuccessful – Issuer reporting that void was unsuccessful
25 – Unable to locate record on file – The customer's card issuer does not recognize the credit card details. The customer should check the card information and try processing the transaction again.TBD
30 – Message format error - The customer’s card issuer does not recognize the transaction details being entered. This is due to a format error. The customer should check the transaction information and try processing the transaction again.
32 – Partial Reversal – A reversal for an amount less than the total has been submitted[JP1]
33 – Pick up card – expired – Issuer reporting the card as expired and requesting merchant to hold the card
38 – Allowed number of PIN Tries Exceeded – The issuer is reporting to many failed attempts to process a transaction with bad PIN
39 – No Credit Account – Bank has declined the transaction as the Card number used is not a credit account.
40 – Requested Function Not Supported – The cardholder's bank has declined the transaction as it does not allow this type of transaction. The cardholder's bank may have put a hold on the card.
41 – Pick up card – lost - The customer’s card issuer has declined the transaction as the card has been reported lost. The customer should use an alternate credit card or contact their bank.
43 – Pick up card – Stolen - The customer’s card has been reported as stolen. While you could contact this customer yourself, it's very possible that this transaction is fraudulent. Tread carefully.
46 - Undocumented issuer response code - The cardholders account has been closed at their issuing bank.
51 – Insufficient Funds - The customer’s card issuer has declined the transaction as the credit card does not have sufficient funds. Advise your customer of this fact, and they should either use an alternate card or contact their bank.
52 – No Checking Account –The customer’s card issuer has declined the transaction as the credit card number is associated to a cheque account that does not exist.
53 – No Savings Account – The customer’s card issuer has declined the transaction as the credit card number is associated to a savings account that does not exist.
54 – Expired Card - The customer’s card is expired. Contact your customer and confirm that the correct dates were entered and that there were no mistakes.
55 – Incorrect PIN – PIN entered for card is incorrect
56 – Cannot Process - The customer’s card issuer has declined the transaction as the credit card number does not exist. The customer should use an alternate credit card.
57 – Transaction not permitted to card holder - The customer’s card issuer has declined the transaction as this credit card cannot be used for this type of transaction. The customer should use an alternate credit card or contact their bank.
58 – Transaction not permitted to terminal - The customer’s card issuer has declined the transaction as this credit card cannot be used for this type of transaction. This may be associated with a test credit card number. The customer should use an alternate credit card or contact their bank.
61 – Exceeds Withdrawal Limit – Transaction amount is higher than the card is allowed to process
62 – Restricted Card - The customer’s card issuer has declined the transaction as the credit card has some restrictions. The customer should use an alternate credit card or contact their bank.
63 – Security Violation/Invalid Amex CID – Invalid AMEX CVV entered during transaction
65 – Exceeds Withdrawal Frequency - means that the customer exceeded his or her credit limit. If not, it means they have reached the maximum number of permitted transactions for a given period.
67 – Pick up card - The customer’s card issuer has declined the transaction as the card is suspected to be a counterfeit. The customer’s card issue has requested that your customer’s credit card be retained by you. The customer should use an alternate credit card or contact their bank.
75 – Allowable Number of PIN Tries Exceeded - The customer's card issuer has declined the transaction as the customer has entered the incorrect PIN more than three times.
82 – Invalid CVV – Incorrect CVV security code entered on transaction attempt
83 – Unable to verify PIN – Issuer was unable to validate PIN – try transaction again
85 – No reason to decline on verify request - indicates a temporary communication error.
87 – Purchase Amount approved, not cash – The issuer approved the transaction but will not allow Cash back attempts
91 – Issuer or Switch Inoperative - The card issuer (your customer's bank) could not be contacted, or did not respond in time
92 – Unable to route transaction - The customer's card issuer cannot be found for routing. This response code is often returned when the customer is using a test credit card number. The customer should attempt to process this transaction again.
93 – Illegal Transaction – The issuer has put some restrictions on the card being used (such as a foreign card the issuer does not allow transactions to be processed outside of the country)[JP2]
94 – Duplicate Transaction – Our system has detected another transaction of the same amount on the same card processed on the same day
98 – Duplicate Transaction– Our system has detected another transaction of the same amount on the same card processed on the same day
N7 – CVV2 Mismatch - the security code entered from the back of the card does not match the bank’s records.
